Coloring?

When Paige was 18 months I decided she was old enough that she might want to start coloring with me so I invested in a large crayon collection and a care-bear coloring book. I was so excited to start coloring together; She did not share my enthusiasm for coloring. Still at the age of 2 it is apparently more fun to throw the crayons and scatter them across the entire house, step on them, break them and peel the crayon wax with her fingernails? I don't get it. She won't even let me color on my own! She takes the coloring book away from me and takes the crayons out of my hands. WHEN will she start coloring with me?
Moms? Am I totally premature with this?

What I did with Mallory was just lay out a big piece of plain white paper (taped butcher paper on the coffee table) and she loves that to this day. She still isn't much for coloring books. Would rather make her "own" pictures. Maybe try that. No your not too early. Good luck!

Let's be honest Brenda. It's not that Paige doesn't like to color...it's that you aren't very good at sharing. You hog the crayons and take all the good pages to color. At least that's why I stopped coloring with you.

I will let you borrow Spencer. He loves to color. He has decorated the fridge, the dishwasher and the oven. He loves to color on paper too, but only if it is a sheet I am writing on. The best crayons are the ones he steals from his sister and runs down the hallway with her shreiking behind him. I thought with his love of coloring we would be set at convention...Nope. He wouldn't even attempt to color all convention long. We came home and he promptly started coloring again. So I have no advice. However I don't think it is to soon to introduce it. They have to know how by Kindergarten :)

i know how it goes brenda, me and skye are always fighting over the best pages. see I like a picture that doesnt have a lot of detail, and i also love head ones like cinderella cause then i do the most beautiful red lips and then i put some wonderful eyeshadow and blush on her(probably cause i dont on myself) and i make her skin a little tan and its just sooo much fun. however thats the ones skye likes too so i hit on a solution and i photocopy the ones we like best and then we each have one! So youll have to try that too, although we still fight over who gets the "original" oh and all my girls LOVE to color, but siena is just now getting into it and shes 3, so don't give up!

Yeah, it took Kenna a while...probably at least 3. She started liking sidewalk chalk long before she colored in coloring books...

Thank you experienced mommies for your stories! Not only that I can still hope she'll color with me someday but also I just love to hear about kids...the things they do, the things they say...kids are the best thing in the world!
And Carmen, I really just can't see that with Spencer...really? He is so sweet-faced and innocent!
And Heather, we should meet up for a coloring date sometime, just you and I! P.S. Heather - I miss your blog!!!

Oh, and Tammia - I am the only one in this family who likes sidewalk chalk too; I drew flowers and rainbows all over the sidewalk only to be scolded by Paige for doing it.
